Where To Find a Quiet Living Space in Manhattan
If you want to enjoy all that Manhattan has to offer but also escape the daily hustle and bustle of the city, consider living in one of these four east-side neighborhoods. Here is a summary of what they can offer.
This landmark community is located between the East River and Park Avenue from 14th St. to 23rd St. The neighborhood’s name derives from the bucolic park at its center. The park is accessible only with a highly coveted key. Most buildings are co-operatives, condominiums and privately owned townhouses. Still, it is possible to find apartments near Gramercy Park in East Side Manhattan to rent. Located within walking distance of Gramercy, some buildings include private playgrounds and gyms, and convenient access to transportation.
Murray Hill spans between the East River and 5th Ave., from 32nd St. to 42nd St. Professionals flock to this affordable low-key neighborhood for convenient subway lines and commuter trains at Grand Central Station. The night-life here is casual and friendly and includes culturally diverse and affordable restaurants. It is possible to find a variety of rental apartments in Murray Hill.
The neighborhood features the landmark Andrew Carnegie townhouse and runs between 5th Ave. and Park Avenue, from 86th St. to 98th St. Proximity to Central Park, a wealth of cultural institutions and top-notch primary schools make Carnegie Hill a great place to raise a family. However, few apartments are available for rent. Exceptions go for extremely high monthly rates. Unless you are very well-off, it may be challenging to live in Carnegie Hill.
Families with more conservative budgets can find tranquility and quality schools in Yorkville, stretching from 79th St. to 96th St., between Third Avenue and the East River. Although far from most public transportation, it is a short walk to Carl Schurz Park, a more accessible alternative to Central Park. Yorkville entertainment consists of small, affordable restaurants and coffee shops.
Manhattan includes many safe and peaceful neighborhoods that could easily make you forget that you are living in a large city.
