National Family Day
When you’ve got a family, there’s always some reason to celebrate. While many of us like to watch fireworks on the Fourth of July, dress up on Halloween or put up lights during December, there are a lot of holidays out there that are, well…. interesting. Whether it’s National Blonde Brownie Day (not complaining) or Measure Your Feet Day (yuck!), you can always find something wacky and great to enjoy!
Personally, one of my favorite holidays is National Family Day, and it’s right around the corner (February 19th)! Not only is it a fun holiday, it’s a great excuse to spend more time with my family. There are a ton of fun things to do together either around the house or outside, but here’s a few great ways to enjoy National Family Day and spend some much-needed time with your family.
1. Eat Out
Try eating a new cuisine that your family have never tried before! Going out to eat together allows everyone to relax and have some great conversation! Do some research and find an authentic restaurant, then let your kids pick a bunch of dishes on the menu to sample. You might be surprised to find what foods your family hasn’t tried yet, and maybe you can start incorporating them at home. Whether it’s Indian or Vietnamese, try something new!
2. Minute To Win It
This one takes a little more preparation, but will definitely pay off in the end! Based on the popular game show Minute To Win It, everyone will have 60 seconds to complete a challenge and the tasks increase in difficulty as you on! Invite your friends and their kids over as well and create teams! To help you get started, here are a few family-friendly party games you can try that’ll spark some friendly competition.
3. DIY Pizza Party
Who doesn’t love pizza? Spend the evening making fresh homemade dough and create mini pizzas that everyone can customize! Go to the store together and buy your favorite pizza toppings. Explore new herbs and spices and smell the difference between them! This is a great way to spend time together and get messy in the kitchen and identify new ingredients.
4. Get Crafty
Making crafts together is a great way to spend time as a family. Try some of these crafts and hobbies to have fun with the kids and incorporate them into your own craft night! Your children will love having a hands-on project that you can all work on together.
5. Puzzle Night
Put down your devices and have a puzzle night! Pick out a 500-piece puzzle and work together to finish it. For a little competition, create teams and see who can finish first! If you’d like to preserve your puzzle once it’s finished, use some clear tape to hold the pieces together. Then it’s ready for hanging!
6. Watch Movies
Sometimes a movie night is the perfect way to end a day. Make a snack spread and binge watch your favorite movies! If you’re looking for new movies, check out Pure Flix for family-friendly movies for any age. They even offer educational options!
Allocating time to spend with your family is so important and I love that there’s a holiday dedicated to doing just this! You don’t have to wait until February 19th to have a family night, but set aside a day every so often to spend quality time together. I hope you liked these ideas and I’d love to hear yours!
