How To Make Your Garden Workshop More Secure

Some people put some serious work into their gardens. For most people, this means that they usually create a workshop near their garden where they can store and organize supplies and tools. Necessary planning can also occur here as well, with usually a white board and dry erase markers providing a necessary means to draw out plans and keep track of important dates. However, there also needs to be some way of securing this safe haven in order to make sure that it not only does its assigned job of acting as storage but also so that the other projects may be completed as well. Here are simple ways to secure the workshop:

From The Floor Up

It helps if the large garden workshop is designed for security from the floor up. It is best to start with a cement floor so that the workshop has a solid foundation. This should enable to keep any supplies reasonably dry, especially if the foundation is at least a few inches above ground level. Upon this should be built the workshop itself, even if it is just essentially a regular garden workshop. The workshop itself should be as weatherproof as possible, and should have some decent ventilation. The door should be lockable from the inside and out, ensuring a secure working environment. Combined with a basic close circuit television or webcam, the workshop can be made reasonably secure.

Additional Security Measures

The workshop can be made additionally secure with just a few extra measures. A decent first aid kit should be in place for at least the most basic of accidents. The workshop should also be within view of the house so that it can be easily checked in order to allay suspicion of break ins, or to easily confirm that it has happened from the security of the house. A simple alarm system can also be set up, as well as extending the house security to the workshop. With a little care, it can be secured against any basic problem.

Some Basic Security Suggestions:

  • Make sure that the lock used is strengthened steel and easily replaceable.
  • You can buy a small camera that can be accessed via the web for better security.
  • Make sure that you have a list of items in the workshop in case of theft.
  • Limit access to the workshop as much as possible.
  • Make sure that the workshop has a cement floor if at all possible.

By following this advice, your workshop should be a secure place to work. You will not only be able to maintain plans for your garden, but also make sure that your tools will be secure and safe as well. The workshop should be a place you can go to be safe in the knowledge that you can work there and enjoy your time. It does not take much to create a safe place, and it can be well worth the time and effort to make the workshop a great place for you to work.

movingoverseas

Moving is stressful at the best of times, but when the move involves changing continents, there is an added level of complexity and cost. Here are some helpful tips on making the move run as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Do an inventory

Sea freight ain’t cheap and when you sit down and figure out how much you have to move, you will probably be staggered at how much ‘stuff’ you’ve managed to accumulate over the years. Start with getting a shipping estimate and then decide do you really want to move all of your things or can you significantly cull down to the essentials? You may be better off to sell big items and buy new ones once you’ve moved. This is a great way to get rid of things you no longer need, have never used or simply don’t like any more. By selling unwanted goods, you’ll also make a bit of money that you can put towards your moving costs.

Store your stuff

The logistics of an overseas move can be quite overwhelming. Getting all of your dates to magically line-up can be a bit like waiting for the planets to align. Exiting from a lease or selling property may not line up with the availability of your new home, that’s even if you’ve found one before you leave! You’ll also have to tie in with freight shipping dates and airline schedules. Choosing a convenient self storage facility and hire some space for your things. This can buy you some time and help you line up all of your key dates. Self storage companies, like Fort Knox, can also help with packing supplies and estimates. If you’re move overseas is only for a set amount of time, why not hire on an ongoing basis and securely store the bulk of your things at home until you return?

Get the right help

When choosing a removalist, make sure you go for a reputable company with proven international experience and great customer testimonials. These businesses with have all the right contacts and know all the rules and regulations about moving things across national borders. They’ll also be able to give you loads of tips and advice on packing your things to minimise breakages and damage as well as insurance to cover you for these things should they occur. If your budget allows, it might be worthwhile taking advantage of packing services offered by your removalist. Packers are fast and efficient and know the best way to secure items to keep them safe. It’s also a lot easier for a stranger to pack items quickly as they’re not emotionally connected to them and this might make things a whole lot easier for you too.

An international move can be exciting, but daunting as well. Make sure you minimise the stress so you can embrace the change and enjoy it as much as possible. By planning your move, hiring storage and getting the right help, you’re move will flow smoothly and efficiently, allowing you to get on with the adjustment of such a big life change.

Regular Vet Check-Up For Your Pets

Do you have pets? If so, how often do you take your pets to the vet for a routine check-up? Mine is annually, the same time as my dog’s vaccine shot update. I also take her when I see she is being lethargic or fussy. However, there is a variety of the number of times you can take your pet to the vet and it all depends as well on their age, size, condition, breed, and type.

It is a good practice though to bring your pet for a regular check up at least once or twice a year just to make sure the vet can spot something odd that you can’t. It is better to catch something earlier than when they are in their advanced stages.

Few months ago, I had to rush my precious baby dog, Millie, to the vet because she was acting lethargic, not eating much and walking super slow when few days before we noticed her sudden change of behaviour and lack of appetite (which was a very rare sight!), we decided a quick visit to the vet was needed. And she was just in the vet few weeks earlier for her vaccine shot.

Her blood work was taken and we were glad it wasn’t negative for anything bad. Rather, she had a pain on her shoulders because she loved to jump around and she probably had a bad fall while we were not at home. So, she was feeling all these pain and not wincing at all. We thought the vet would give antibiotics like simplicef and thank goodness that her blood results were fine. She was given a pain-relief instead for 3 days and surprisingly, as soon as she ingested the first tablet, she was back to her jumpy self.

We made sure she wouldn’t jump on the bed and couch anymore by removing low objects on the way.

So, we were glad we didn’t wait for last minute and decided to do another check-up. Otherwise, we would have seen her condition get worse.

Make it a habit to visit the vet. Take that opportunity to ask questions, clarifications and even tips if you are a first time parent to a furry baby.
