Air Conditioning Repairs and Maintenance Advice

How to Choose the Right Air Conditioning Unit

To make sure you’re getting the most out of your air conditioning unit, it’s vital that you get the right type of air conditioner to suit the space in your home or office.

The most inexpensive air conditioning system is the wall mounted air conditioning unit. These are the most popular type of air conditioning system as it can easily be mounted on most walls. Wall mounted air conditioning offers a compact climate control system and can be mounted high on the wall, which is what makes it so effective.

Cassette air conditioning units are ideal for large open spaces. The great thing about these units are that they are small and discreet. Due to their size, they can be installed into awkward spaces so this type of air conditioning is perfect if you don’t have the ceiling space for a wall-mounted system.

For a compact but very effective air conditioning unit, the floor standing air conditioner is a good alternative to mounted air conditioning systems. These systems allow you better control of the temperature in different parts of the room, for example, you can direct a flow of air to a particular area, which is perfect if you have some people who enjoy cooler air and others who don’t like to be blasted with cold air.

A ducted air conditioning unit is the most expensive to have installed due to the intricacies of installing this type of system. Ducted air conditioning systems fit discreetly into the ceiling and can cool or heat multiple areas at the same time, or can be programmed to focus on specific areas of the home or office. These air conditioners are also the quietest type, since the compressor is outside rather than inside the building.

Some air conditioning units can actually save you money. Using a modern, energy efficient air conditioning system to cool and heat your home rather than traditional heating systems can be a cost-effective way of regulating the temperature in your home. In fact, with inverter air conditioning systems you could be saving up to 40% than traditional gas central heating costs.

White Vinegar As Stain Remover

You just laid your beautiful light colored rug or carpet and suddenly, a little accident happened, you kid or dog spilled something very bright and colorful, like a juice. What will you do? Do you panic? Do you remove the carpet or rug all together and replace with a new one? Or, you can do this:

1. Wipe the spill as soon as possible. Waiting for it to set will make it more hard to remove and will eventually discolor your carpet or rug.

2. Apply 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 2 cups of water on the affected area.

3. Blot the area with a towel. Do not rub because it will fray the affected area.

4. Put another layer of rag under the affected area. If your floor is wood then wet wood can cause another stain on the area which will be difficult to remove.

5. Do not dry with a blow dryer or any heated appliance as this will permanently leave stain on the affected area.

Make Your Place Look Big

Small quarters are the in thing these days because of its practicality, easy and low cost maintenance and affordable price. A lot of people are going to the down-size mentality and buying a house of a condominium unit is one of the best way to practice this practical tactic.

We recently bought a small unit in Quezon City. It is a studio flat which is roughly 46 sq.m. only. So, my husband and I had to look for tips and tricks to make our small unit look spacious.

Here are some tips to note if you want to make your place look big:

Install a lot of windows.

If you already have a ready built house or unit, you can still enhance the window aspect by making a slight renovation.  Make a wall of windows to accommodate more light and draws the vision out to a landscaped garden, yard or skyscrapers.

Remove unwanted clutter in the hallway.

For those who have hallways, re-organize and de-clutter. Too much stuff in the hallway can make the area cramped and much of an eye sore.

Install built-ins

This can be in a form of built-in window seat with a storage underneath the seater or shelves and pantry cupboard. All these extra installation can remove clutter and offer more organized view in the house, allowing the focus to be on the furnitures and the whole house or unit’s structure rather than the clutter.

Use mirrors.

Mirrors add the illusion of length and space. It reflects images making a room seem big and borderless.

Use light colors on walls and furnitures and avoid bulky furniture

Light colors can make a room look spacious. Extend the same concept when buying furniture. Buy the light colored ones with a sleek and modular structure. Avoid using chunky, dark and bug furniture so your area will not look cramped.

Nail Trick

I always find it hard to hammer a nail because the nail keeps falling of going out of place. I have to pick up the nail several times only to fall again.

Sweat no more! There is a solution to that. COMB. Yes, a comb. You don’t have to buy it. Just use your comb and wedge the nail in between the teeth and voila! You’re nail is in place. This only works well on flat surface. If you’re going to use this trick on a wall, you may have to ask someone to hold the comb for you. Don’t even ask the person to hold the nail just so you can hammer. Chances of hitting the person’s fingers is likely to happen.

Loosen Stuck Sliding Windows and Doors

If you have sliding doors and windows in your home and they are not budging when you close or open them, try this simple trick. Get a silicone lubricant spray and spray it along the railings to smooth the skids. This usually happens with cold climate because metals contract and friction is high.

So don’t despair when your sliding doors or windows are stuck. Head to the nearest hardware store and get a silicone lubricant spray. That should do the trick!
