An Old Dog’s Poem

milliebaby2

I read this poem from the web and don’t know who to give credit for this wonderfully written poem about an aged dog in the shelter and being given a new lease in life. It is close to home base as it pulls my heart string because I also have a dog. Her name is Millie. I adopted her from a family who could not take her back to the UK.

I was not even the first in the list for those who wanted to take Millie. But as luck would have it (but I credit it to fate and God’s providence), the previous owners of Millie called me to say the rest backed out and asked if I still want Millie. That phone call sealed the deal for me and Millie. She is ours.

Millie is also an old dog now. I reckon, she is around 9 or 10 already and her features are slowly showing those sign but I still pray that we’ll have her for many, many years more because she is already a part of the family and she’s already won our hearts 1 million times over.

This poem is very beautiful. If all shelter dogs can talk and share what they feel for being adopted and being given a second chance in life, I am sure this is what they will say:

One by One, they pass by my cage,
Too old, too worn, too broken, no way.
Way past his time, he can’t run and play.
Then they shake their heads slowly and go on their way.

A little old man, arthritic and sore,
It seems I am not wanted anymore.
I once had a home, I once had a bed,
A place that was warm, and where I was fed.
Now my muzzle is gray, and my eyes slowly fail.
Who wants a dog so old and so frail?

My family decided I didn’t belong,
I got in their way, my attitude was wrong.
Whatever excuse they made in their head,
Can’t justify how they left me for dead.
Now I sit in this cage, where day after day,
The younger dogs get adopted away.

When I had almost come to the end of my rope,
You saw my face, and I finally had hope.
You saw thru the gray, and the legs bent with age,
And felt I still had life beyond this cage.
You took me home, gave me food and a bed,
And shared your own pillow with my poor tired head.

We snuggle and play, and you talk to me low,
You love me so dearly, you want me to know.
I may have lived most of my life with another,
But you outshine them with a love so much stronger.
And I promise to return all the love I can give,
To you, my dear person, as long as I live.

I may be with you for a week, or for years,
We will share many smiles, you will no doubt shed tears.
And when the time comes that God deems I must leave,
I know you will cry and your heart, it will grieve.
And when I arrive at the Bridge, all brand new,
My thoughts and my heart will still be with you.
And I will brag to all who will hear,
Of the person who made my last days so dear.

Such a lovely poem, right? So if you want to have a pet, please try not to buy. Visit a shelter for dogs and check out the number of lovely poochies you may be able to save there. Give them a new hope. Give them a home they can live in forever. More so, let them feel love whether they are young or old.

A dog’s love is unconditional. Aside from God, I can’t think of anyone else who can love me unconditionally despite of my imperfections than my Millie.

Back From Tokyo

We just got back from Tokyo, Japan yesterday morning and I still feel like I am in Japan. We all loved the place. We are already thinking of our 2nd trip to Japan and hopefully, by early next year when the weather is still cool and breezy.

We enjoyed this short but fun-filled vacation. We haven’t been to places lately except for New York so the trip to Tokyo is refreshing and exciting.

My daughter really had fun. We got tired walking around though, but that’s normal. I even lost 1.5 kgs from continuous walking from morning until evening. Now I don’t wonder why the Japanese are slender people. They are always on the go and they don’t mind walking long stretches to get to the train station. Aside from the rigorous walking stints, the food is amazing. I find the food bland which is what I prefer and their green tea is nice.

I said I will not shop but I ended up buying so many cute or kawaii stuff for my daughter and myself. Even the hubby joined the wagon by purchasing a Voltes V action figure for his collection.

I don’t even want to know how much I have spent on this trip. You don’t put a price tag on family time and fun!

Glam Rockstar Theme For My Daughter’s 16th Birthday Party

Few more months and my daughter will turn sweet 16. I am already in the process of organizing her party. I have chosen the theme with her approval of course and bought some giveaways already for her close friends who will celebrate her momentous moment.

We’ve narrowed down our theme from several choices like Hollywood stars, 1920’s-30’s era, Fashion, Japanese Anime or Rockstar. We ended up merging the rockstar and japanese theme together so this will be one unique set up.

As I have mentioned earlier, I have bought some souvenirs already. I am contemplating of getting a gypsy jazz guitar as part of the props for her photo booth session but will check if I can find one to borrow. Her giveaways are still a top secret. Here’s a hint though, it has something to do with the theme of course!

I am so excited now. It won’t be a big bash but certainly fun because only her close friends will be in attendance. I do hope they come so my daughter will enjoy her day with us and her friends.

Enjoy Your Family Board Games Night

Board games have been around for generations and I remember growing up playing Monopoly, Cluedo, Snakes and Ladders, Battleship, Scrabble and so much more. One of my favourite past time while growing up was playing board games. It was a fun activity we did at home with my parents every weekend.

Back then, family nights are sacred and a lot of families engage in fun activities to build rapport amongst siblings, encourage sportsmanship, engage in small family discussions and simply give value to that precious time spent with their loved ones. It is not surprising to know that the board games have doubled in sales for the past 9 years because more and more families are engaging in family board games night.

So, I took that fun, happy and loving memories of my board games experience to my family now. We take time to enjoy our board games over light snacks and sodas while sitting on the couch, rolling the dice on our favorite Monopoly game.

Switch your TV, phone, laptops and other distractions off at least every weekend to enjoy your family time. Relive those happy memories of your childhood by engaging your kids to play your favorite board games with you. Let them experience the joys of rolling the dice, owning millions of fake monies and properties in prime locations or better yet, sink a ship, or pretend to be a young sleuth for the day.

Board games are fun and it is high time to put them back in every families’ fun times.
