My Dream Closet

Do you ever wonder about your dream closet? I know I do! Reminiscing back to ever since I was able to stand, I loved organizing my clothes and belongings in my bedroom and closet. However, I never felt like I had enough room, and that’s still a big problem in my life! I’m constantly wishing I  had a second closet, and that’s when I heard of MakeSpace, which is a service that comes to your place, picks up your extra items, and stores them for you! Whenever you need something back, you can log onto their app, hit which items you need back, and they bring them back to your doorstep. They’re available in a number of self storage locations and rapidly expanding!

So after hearing about MakeSpace, I got an idea to write about my dream closet if I could design it right here and now. I will admit, it’s one of my most pinned items on Pinterest. I love looking at pictures upon pictures of closets that are bigger than the master bedroom in my house! Racks on racks of shoes, the latest outfits, and maybe even a glass topped island like the picture below, filled with all my jewelry or my two prized possession Michael Kors bags!

Some of my recent favorite closets I’ve seen came from the new Emma Roberts show “Scream Queens” that includes, a two story closet, with a princess-like balcony around the top! All the shoes are the centerpiece, with the beautiful bags on the left, and the organized by color (what I did as a kid) rest of the wardrobe on the right! Organization was a big issue for me growing up, even to the point where my mom would have to leave my clean clothes in a pile on my bed so I could organize them by style, color, and season, so you know this would be my main concern in my dream closet.

In addition, I always have loved the movie “Clueless” that starred Cher, who had a computer controlled closet! Yes, I did not say that wrong, she got to pick her outfit out on her computer, see how it looked on her, and pressed the big “Get Dressed” button and poof, absolute magic! I’m pretty sure every birthday when I blew out the candles, my wish was always to wake up the next day to having Cher’s closet

Last but not least, the last part I would love in my dream closet, is a cute staircase like I found in this one below. The staircase allows for a neat shoe organizer to be put down the side of them, and makes the closet look really rich as there is an underpass that connects to the other side of the closet. The picture even says that this closet is only accessible from the bedroom, making it even cooler! That way it can dub as my secret hideout, I think all I would need to add is a TV (with a NetFlix subscription), and a small love seat so I can sprawl out.

So, snap back to reality, and back into my dreams go all of my dream closet secrets I just shared with you. I’ll keep wishing every birthday, anytime I see a shooting star, and every time I pick up a four leaf clover. Because a girl can dream right?!

Let me know what you would do for your dream closet, I can’t wait to see everyone’s ideas!

4 Tips for Organising Your Closet

orga

If you really want to be organised and make optimal use of the space available, prioritise a clean out and re-organisation of your closet. By applying these tips and tricks, you will be able to enjoy the feeling of spaciousness and the satisfaction that comes with a clean, well-organised and de-cluttered closet.

1. Move things out and into storage

Closets tend to be a place to deposit things that you don’t quite know what to do with. Often, items that you are not prepared to donate, give away or throw out are kept in the closet and occupy valuable space. An excellent solution to this situation is offsite storage, in a quality facility such as the safe and secure storage facilities provided by Fort Knox. A range of offsite storage options are available and, by checking out the company website, you will discover a storage options to meet your needs, budget, and long- and short-term plans.

2. Assess the value of shelves

Most people seem to think that the ideal closet has plenty of shelves. However, shelves tend to take up more than their fair of closet space. Having too many shelves in your closet can also make it hard to stack items and remove items as you need them. Carefully consider your need for shelves within your closet and whether more space could be created if more hanging space was available. By all means include some shelves in your closet, but creating shelves that best fit the items you have to store is the best idea.

3. Hang your clothes strategically

In most cases, hanging clothes in a closet allows you to effectively organise your clothing, particularly if you have many dresses and/or suits. In sections of your closet where double hanging space is available, hang the shortest clothes from the top rod and then position the bottom rod as high as possible beneath them. By doing this, space will be created near the floor and this can be used for shoe racks and storage bins or baskets.

Organise your hanging items further by organising them according to category. For example, hang all short-sleeved shorts together, all long-sleeved shirts together and use hanging organisers to keep shoes, bags and jewellery in order.

4. Make the most of small spaces

To fully capitalise on the space available, think carefully about every inch of space. If space is truly at a premium, consider over-the-door storage for items such as shoes and belts, as these items can unnecessarily occupy space in your closet. Use bins and baskets for storage that is quick to access and effective in keeping items out of the way. Socks and underwear are good items for storage in these receptacles.

When your closet is well-organised, you will not only have the satisfaction of knowing where everything is, you will also appreciate the absence of excess clutter and surplus items from your life. Even in small closet spaces, there are some excellent ways to use space effectively and by moving some items into an offsite storage facility, you can really enjoy the benefits of a clean, clear and logically organised closet space.

Pink Bedrooms For Girls Who Love Pink

I am of the girly-girly type of person so it is not a surprise why I love pink. It doesn’t matter whether it’s light pink, pastel pink, hot pink and even fuschia. I just love pink.

I grew up having my own bedroom so I had the rein in designing it. I obviously had the walls painted light pink, my closets in picket fence white and the bedsheets in majestic hot mess of pink! I love pink and I have an overdose of it.

So, when I had a daughter, I bought her pink stuff, covered her beds with pink sheets and color-coordinate in her stuff with pink. My husband would always kid that my daughter sometimes would look like a walking Pepto Bismol! hahaha.

Anyway, I just want to share these beautiful rooms to you if you are like me who loves pink or if you have little misses around who wants to have pink stuff and pink themed rooms. These pictures below are great source of “pink bedroom ideas” which I got from browsing Google images. Credit goes to the owners of the pictures.

Take a look at these gorgeous bedrooms with awesome pinkness! And who knows, you might just incorporate one in your home for your little miss or maybe for your teen daughter who is as girly as can be.

Beautiful Furniture Makeovers

We all have a certain piece of furniture that we like so much that parting with it is not an option. However, if this certain furniture is an outdated one, sticks out like a sore thumb in your home interior or has so many scratches and imperfections due to wear and tear, then do a furniture makeover! Don’t throw those beautiful pieces because you can actually make those dull pieces into chic furnitures.

If you don’t know where to start with the makeover project, head on to BHG.com for some inspirations. The pictures posted below are all featured in BHG.com and credit is given to the owner.

Recessed Shelves

I fancy plenty of shelving units to be incorporated in our dream house design. I just love to have places for everything and I need not worry of not remembering where to put what. This is due to the fact that we have been living in a small flat here Dubai that storage is quite limited to few linen closets and boxes under the bed. However, once we have our dream house built, I will make sure that there will be enough shelves and cupboards to be used to store linens, spare china, pantry shelves for canned goods, books and other knick-knacks.

A recessed shelf is a shelf built deep onto a wall like a sunken cabinet or shelf which are at level to the flat wall. It is not protruding like normal book cases or shelves.

I want to install recessed shelves in the bathroom and near our bedroom where we can store books and my memorabilia from our travels abroad.

Here are some designs I took from the internet and from Houzz.com which is my favorite go-to site for house inspirations.
