Top Places in Canada To View The Northern Lights

Seeing the wonders of the Northern Lights is in my bucket list. So far, I have not really planned anything about viewing this celestial phenomenon because I want my whole family to be with me when that happens. I have initially checked the frequency of this beautiful northern lights appearance in the northern part of Europe but never really thought about checking Canada’s very own Aurora Borealis. And I wonder why I never thought of doing that?

What is the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis anyway? Well, this is a light display that Mother Earth gladly shows us amidst the dark skies. This happens when charged particles of the Sun reacts with the atoms and molecules of Mother Earth’s atmosphere causing streams of bright undulating light show in the sky.

Canada’s location in the northern hemisphere makes it a perfect place to view nature’s greatest light show – the Aurora Borealis. Although, Norway is a famous tourist attraction during the peak of the Northern Lights viewing in Europe, there are also places in Canada where you can see this light show.

If you want to check out the Northern Lights from parts of Canada with your family and friends then here are some great places to consider for better viewing.

Iqaluit, Nunavut

Nunavut is an Arctic archipelago and will have no infrastructure (and probably even power!) to block the view of the Northern Lights. It is bitter cold in this place so you have to be prepared for the extreme weather when considering Iqaluit, Nunavut as your focal point in viewing the lights.

Whitehorse, Yukon

Yukon is a great place to visit to view the Aurora Borealis from fall to spring. So if you want to visit without having to feel the biting, bitter cold, then consider Whitehorse in Yukon for your place to see the Northern Lights.

Northern Saskatchewan

Many parks are open most days of the year to cater visitors’ demand to witness Mother Earth’s famous light display amidst the dark sky.  Melfort, a Northeast city in Saskatchewan is famous for the regular light show display most part of the year.

If you have visitors coming to Canada to view the magnificent light show like your parents or grandparents, make sure that you secure proper travel documentations including their super visa insurance.  You can check other travel insurance they may require like these offerings from snowbird travel insurance. Getting secured while traveling to Canada is a must to ensure a stress free vacation.
